Heidfeld and Kubica are back for '09, but F1 is out of North America

Autosport.com has reported that BMW-Sauber is retaining Formula One drivers Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld for the 2009 season. The team will also retain its test driver, Christian Klien.
The announcement ends speculation that Heidfeld would lose his ride next year, and closes the door for others mentioned as possible candidates for the BMW-Sauber slot, among them two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.
Nick Heidfeld, Robert Kubica, and Christian Klien (front to back) will all be back at BMW-Sauber in 2009 But regrettably, fans in North America will not be able to see the BMW-Sauber team, or, for that matter, any of the F1 circus, next year. The Grand Prix of Canada has been dropped from the FIA’s revised 2009 calendar, released today. The calendar includes eighteen races, including a new season-ending Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi in November.
No doubt manufacturers involved in F1, already unhappy about the absence of the series from the US, will not be pleased with the elimination of the remaining North American round. There has been speculation that F1 will return to Indianapolis in 2010. The manufacturers in F1 can be expected to lobby for the sport’s return to one of their most important markets.
