BMW Nürburgring school enrollment extended!

June 2, 2009

Three-day school now includes Grand Prix track;
rental cars available through Arndt Automotive

Though the legendary Nürburgring driving school—set for August 2–5 this year—usually sells out within days, if not hours, of the opening of registration, school organizer Werner Briel has announced that several slots are still open—especially for North American drivers.

The school, conducted by the BMW Club Mülheim-Ruhr, is open to entries from BMW clubs all over the world, but BMW Car Club of America members have enjoyed a special presence at the famous facility.

More good news: Sierra Chapter member Mike Dietel traveled to Germany in May to arrange for the availability of BMW rental cars at the Nürburgring—at a discount. “Last year, renting a car for the Ring was difficult and expensive—about $800 a day,” says Dietel. “This year we’ve arranged to have cars available for $800 for the whole three days.”

Of course, if you share a ride, as many BMW CCA members do, that cuts your costs in half.

Another new development this year is the expansion of the program to provide experience in two different driving environments, with two days spent on the Nordschleife—the traditional thirteen-mile North Loop—and the third day spent on the modern Grand Prix track next to the Nordschleife. Other attractions at the Nürburgring include the spectacular new Lindner resort hotel; set to open this summer, it’s sort of like Disneyland for gearhead grown-ups—a vacation destination in its own right. And of course there’s the famous BMW Ring Taxi, an E-ticket ride with a driver who’s been around the course a few thousand times.

But there’s no better way to experience the Nürburgring than to drive it yourself—and no better way to do that than by enrolling in the BMW Nürburgring school. For further details of the school, click here.
