Kubica takes the pole at Bahrain

April 4, 2008

BMW-Sauber's Robert Kubica took the pole for Sunday's Grand Prix of Bahrain, edging out Ferrari's Felipe Massa, who had been quickest in practice and qualifying up until the last minute of the last qualfying session. McLaren's Lewis Hamilton was third.

It was BMW-Sauber's first-ever pole, and was the first pole for a BMW-powered Formula One car since Nick Heidfeld put his Williams-BMW in the first position on the grid for the Grand Prix of Europe at the Nurburgring in 2005. In Bahrain this year, Heidfeld qualified his BMW-Sauber sixth on the grid.
